This is an exceptional example of the rare Satin Flash gold base Hyalite Opal from Utah. These stones are only found in Utah, USA

Hyalite opal is formed in the deposits of geysers and similar geological formations. It does not have play of color, but it's adularescence makes it a beautiful stone in a different way. Light plays off of the botryoidal structure of the stone and gives it a very bubbly personality. According to internet lore, the deposits where these stones are mined are pretty much depleted so the only stones available are those already cut and for sale, like this one.
