Description
This ring has a lot going on for it.
When I started this design, I knew I wanted to use this opal and I knew I wanted it to have a southwestern vibe to it.
The opal is a solid Australian crystal opal (Meaning it is transparent but still has color play). It is 6.7 carats and measures about 23mm x 13mm! The fire is subtle yet powerful, layer upon layer of soft red and green flakes of fire roll across the stone. Because the stone is transparent, You can see down into ti and see deeper layers of fire.
I selected turquoise as an accent stone for two reasons: I wanted to pay homage to the southwestern influence in the design, and also to help accent the base color of the opal which is a very soft blueish purple tone.
Then, by setting the turquoise between two 14k yellow gold droplets, both the turquoise and the gold really pop as complementary colors!
The two feathers wrapping around the ends "hug" the opal and provide literal protection as well, forming bumpers and high points to protect the stone from bumps and scratches.
This ring is one of a kind!
