I recently purchased some rough Spencer Idaho Opal from the Spencer Opal Mines. I am starting to cut it and the results are spectacular! Lots of what I would call Fingerprint fire. sort of an iridescent shimmer that graces the surface of the opal in a circular pattern.
This Piece is 50.8 carats and measures 31.90mm x 28.1mm x 7.6mm thick... making this a whopper of a piece!

THE FIRE:
This piece has radial fingerprint like iridescent fire on the surface. It is blue and purple around the perimeter and pink and red towards the inside!
There are some cutting scratches on the surface. This piece could be easily kept as is and set or retouched. In fact. Close examination shows that there is a second pin-fire layer of opal about a tenth of a millimeter below the surface and about 1mm deeper is a third layer of fire. So if you interested in a nice piece of Idaho opal to re-cut this could be it.
There are some surface cracks but this is a very stable opal i even tried to break it with my fingers!
