Description:

This is a one of a kind piece!

It is one of a kind partly because it took so long to make and was such a challenge, that I don't think I'll attempt it again soon. And partly because the opal itself is quite stunning and very unique!

The Necklace features a solid sterling silver rolo chain. The overall length is about 21", including the pendant

It is crafted from solid sterling silver, by hand using traditional techniques, not lost wax casting.

The head is a perfect deep blue flash moonstone.
The tail feathers feature 5 citrine stones, two amethysts, two peridots and one blue topaz.
The opal is a semi black opal, all solid, (not a doublet or triplet) Natural, from Australia.
There is also a cluster of 14k yellow gold droplets behind the head, like drops of dew in the back

The overall piece is 3" long, so it is quite the piece to behold!

Ready to ship!

By request, I can shorten the chain, or add an extension to accommodate.

Cheers,
Austin

Legend (see "Legends Collection Information" for details on this section):

There were two older women that had been friends for years,  Josephine and Annabel.  Josephine still woke up every morning and did her hair and make-up and Annabel had long given up saying there was no use anymore.  She would mumble, "There is no amount of makeup that can cover up these wrinkles and saggy cheeks."

Josephine and Annabel had a girls day out planned to go to a local farm stand that had a jewelry shop, homemade fudge, ice cream, farm animals fresh fruits and veggies the whole deal.  They both went in and got an ice cream cone and wandered out by the peacock cage.  Josephine wrinkled her noise as one of the peacocks made a terrible noise, "What ugly, loud birds." she commented.  Annabel smiled and said, "Just wait until he opens up his feathers.  Look at how beautiful they are with all of the vibrant blues, greens and purples.  They may be loud and not much to look at at first glimpse, but if you look a little closer you can see all the beauty they have to offer."

After they finished their ice cream they went into to browse the jewelry, all hand made there by a silversmith. Josephine noticed a beautiful peacock broach, snatched it up and went to pay for it while Annabel kept looking.  When the two left the and headed back to the car Josephine grinned and handed Annabel a box, "It isn't perfect, since its hand made there are a lot of blemishes, but like someone once told me, if you can look past that you can see all the beauty it has to offer- just like you.  I want you to wear it, look in the mirror and look past the wrinkles, the saggy cheeks and any other complaints and see all the magnificence you have to offer."  Annabel started to cry when she opened the box to see the beautiful peacock broach.  Annabel managed to whisper, "thank you."

Black Diamond

Sterling Silver
Description:

This ring has a lot going on, I feel the pictures do it justice, but I'll elaborate below on some of the more technical details:

First: Yes, the gears do move and interact with each other.  That being said, the movement is stiff and a bit jerky.  Gear ratios have to be perfect or the gears will "load" and jam.  Needless to say, I am a silversmith, not a watch maker, and I hand shaped and polished each gear by hand, so it is a small miracle that they even fit together.

Materials:

The entire ring is crafted in sterling silver, and each gear is shaped from yellow brass.

The overall size of the top of the ring is 38mm long (1.5")

There are a total of 17 gemstones in this ring.  They are each identified on the last picture.  Here is that information again:

Black Diamond (1) at 5.0mm, AAA Grade, 0.65 carats (65 points)

Sapphires (6) at 2.5-2.6mm each along the outer rim.  These range from A grade to AAA Grade. One of them has Ceylon color.

Sapphire (1) at 3.0mm, AA Grade

Rubies (2) at 2.5-2.6mm each, AA Grade

Citrine (4) at 2.0mm each, AA Grade

Chocolate Diamond (1) at 1.5mm, I1 clarity

Blue Diamond (2) at 1.0 - 1.1mm each, SI/3-I-1 clarity, Aqua Blue color

All of these are natural stones (earth mined).

If this ring gains popularity, you can be assured that I'll make more in this series in the future, but this ring, will always be one of a kind.

Engineers Delight

A plain looking young woman stood in front of a fountain gazing up at large clock.  A handsome young gentleman walked over and asked, "what are you looking at miss?"  She was a bit shy, but decided to answer, "The clock- it's amazing, all of the gears and parts to make it work.  I'm sure it just looks like a plain clock to anyone else, but it is beautiful to me."  He smiled, "ah, but not as beautiful as you."  She started blushing, she hadn't been called beautiful in years, maybe ever. Her heart smiled at the thought.  The young man pulled a ring out of his pocket, "I found this on the ground a couple of months ago, and I have been carrying it around trying to figure out what to do with it.  What do you think of it?"

She looked at the ring he presented.  It was an odd shape with gears that moved and gorgeous shimmering gemstones. It was like nothing she had ever seen before.  She murmured in a shy low voice, "Wow, I've never seen anything like it.  It is even more beautiful than the clock. May I try it on?" "Of course", he said. It fit perfectly.  He grinned because he saw her crack a smile as she slide it on her finger.  "I think a young lady as beautiful as you should have it.  It will remind you how beautiful you are, even on days when you don't feel that way."  She was shocked, she had never had someone be so kind to her without asking anything return.  She was so excited she hugged the gentleman and only managed to smile the biggest thank you he had ever seen.

Description:

This ring sort of evolved as it was created. I started out knowing that I wanted to create something in my studded line. I wanted to set this stone and I wanted it to be bold. Not trying to appeal to the masses with this one.

Then, mid way through, I decided it needed to be a mixed metal ring. I had these cast copper gears and after playing with them and the ring I realized that they looked like paddle wheels next to a steam powered ship.

The gears were added to the sides with small rivets to allow them to turn (Yes, they spin!), and small natural garnets were set in the top of each smoke stack. Then this one of a kind stone was set between the stacks to form the deck.

The strawberry quartz, so named for its color, has hundreds of silky inclusions that give it a sparkle inside the stone, similar to rutile quartz, and sunstone. I have seen a lot of material labeled strawberry quartz, but this stone may be one of the finer pieces I have ever come across.

This is a one of a kind ring.

Lore and Properties
Legend (see "Legends Collection Information" for details on this section):

One upon a summer there was a young woman who felt nothing was going her way.   She hadn't had a boyfriend in months,  her job sucked the life from her and everything she seemed to try for slipped through her fingers.  After work one day she walked past a poster advertising an evening of elegance upon a steam driven paddle boat.  There was to be dancing, food and no partner was needed.  She decided to treat herself and purchased a ticket.  That evening, as she boarded the boat, her heart felt forlorn, but she smiled and was determined to have a good time even though she was by herself.   She was sipping her drink at a corner booth and nervously fiddling with her hair when a handsome young man came over.  "Would you like to dance?" he asked with a smile.

She looked up and their eye's met.   Immediately, there was a spark in their eyes and their hearts.  From that moment on he didn't leave her side.  They danced and laughed and felt more alive than either had in years.

When the night was coming to an end,  he looked at her and said,  " I don't want to live another day without you.  Come with me and work by my side in my shop near here.  You can even build your own business there if you want."   The young woman smiled and said,  "I've been waiting so long for this ."

A year later he said he had a surprise for her and asked her to be ready by 5pm.  He took her to the same boat they had met on one year prior.  The night passed with no less magic than the night they met.  As it was drawing to a close, he asked her out on the deck.  Nervously,  he knelt down on one knee and asked,  "Will you marry me?".  She started to cry and smiled,  "I thought you would never ask."  He smiled back,  and explained,  " You're no ordinary girl and this is no ordinary love.  I wanted your ring to mean something,  so I had one custom made to look like this steam driven paddle boat we met on.  The center stone is strawberry quartz,  because it sparkles like my eyes and heart sparkles for you,  and the stacks have red garnets in them to signify our love. "

 She was speechless.

She loved the ring and over the years when times were difficult she just glanced at her ring and it filled her heart with sparks just like those wonderful nights on the boat and made her smile.  And her smiled were always returned by a smile from her husband.

Summer Tea

One warm summer day, a girl was hard at work pulling weeds in her garden. In just one month it will be time for her move off to college.

Her mother strolled out the door with a couple glasses of iced tea, lowered herself onto the porch swing, and hollered, “It’s warm today. Come have a glass of tea with me!”

The girl pulled off her gardening gloves, tucking them in her back pocket. She made her way to the porch swing and took a glass of cold tea from her mother.

Her mother gazed longingly into the garden, “Flowers are amazing things, so many fruits and vegetables start out as flowers, from the largest trees to the tiniest plants.  They come in countless shapes, sizes and colors, and many have special meanings.  In a way, flowers are the essence of life; the beautiful beginnings to food, life and reproduction.”

She pulled a small brown box from her pocket, breathed deeply and, struggling to hold back the tears, gently placed the small box into her daughter’s hand, “I have something for you.”

The girl grasped the small box, opened the lid and gazed inside. Within was a beautiful silver ring with a flower on top.  She was speechless.

Her mother pointed to the flower, “The rough times in life are the textured petals and the gemstone in the center represents your essence; your inner traits that will shine out and help you through the rough times in life. When you’re having a rough day, wear your ring and remember the things you’re good at, the things that make you happy and your mothers love.  We are all here for you any time you need us.”

With a warm smile and a heartfelt hug the daughter was ready for the adventures that lay ahead.

Description:

This pendant was hand crafted here in our workshop with solid sterling silver.  The setting was then oxidized and polished to give it a "gunmetal" like finish.  The boulder opal was slowly hand cut and polished to show the veins of blue and purple fire running through the stone.  The knobby shape of the boulder opal nugget was left along to showcase its organic shape.

The Black Star Diopside is cut in a oval cabochon and is set in a low bezel.  Depending on the angle of the light, up to two -four pointed stars- can be seen at the same time across the surface of the stone.

This is a one of a kind pendant with one of a kind stones.

Includes the black cord seen in the pictures

Lore and Properties
Properties:
In a far off land many moons ago lived a young woman that as a girl had been abandoned. She grew up in orphanages and finally at 18 was tossed out in the street to fend for herself. She had no money, nowhere to go and decided to make her way by sneaking into a nearby orchard at night and stealing fruit. During the day she would set-up a little table down town on a corner selling her loot from the fruit she had stole the night before. It didn't make her much money but it made enough for food and water and a jacket. After a couple of months the farmer noticed that there were foot prints into his orchard coming from a dugout under a close by fence. These little dugouts were in each of his orchards. He knew at that moment that someone had been stealing his fruit. Furious he went to find out who it was. He staked out at night waiting for the thief when he saw a young timid girl sneaking under his fence and delicately picking not the best fruit but only stuff off the Ground that was still good. He noticed she was in rags and was dirty and only took a few pieces of fruit. He decided to follow her and see where his fruit was going. He quietly followed a long several yards back not letting he know he was there. She softly crept back to a box in a park area near the town with a blanket inside. He saw she had a little table and a sign that said "fruit for sale" $.25 each. He walked back to his farm pondering what to do with this. He was the owner of the farm and aging, he had no heirs and was the only one running the farm with a few paid workers. he had been looking for someone to train and pass his legacy onto. The next day he went to her stand and asked if she would be interested in working for him, he told her she would work for room, board and a few coins a day. She was so shocked that someone took an interest in her and took him up on his offer immediately. She was following him back to the farm when she realized it was the farm she had been taking the fruit from. She turned to the farmer and apologized for sneaking in and steeling the fruit. She poured out tears stating she never meant to take his fruit from him, but had to live somehow. "I understand if you don't want me to work for you." He politely responded, "I know you were taking fruit that's why I asked you to work for me." She vowed to work hard to pay him back for his generosity. One day he was showing her how to tell what the trees needed in their soil when she noticed a glint of purple and black peak out from under the neckline on his shirt. She asked "what is that?" He said "this is the pendant which has been passed down for generations in my family. He rocked the stone back and forth in his hand; the purple shown through the dark brown matrix almost making a maze like pattern as a star appeared in the dark stone under it - "the purple" he said, is like the maze of life we all follow, ups downs and around, the black stone has a star in it that acts as our north star guiding us through the maze of life, helping my family to make the right turns and choices. She smiled and they continued working. Over the years he taught her everything he could about running the farm and one day at sunset they were both sitting on the front porch, he reached around to the back his neck taking off the pendant he walked around behind her and put it on- its time, this farm is yours and this pendant will guide you on your path.
